Look what just showed up for lunch!
Four Roses Bourbon and Impellizzeri’s Pizza have teamed up for the second year as a way to celebrate National Bourbon Heritage Month with a bourbon-infused pizza. This year’s pie includes smoked pulled pork, caramelized onions, smoked gouda cheese and a Four Roses Bourbon barbecue sauce.
“Bourbon has been known for many years by bartenders and mixologists as a very versatile beverage alcohol for mixing cocktails, and in recent years more and more chefs across our country are discovering the unique and complex flavors created by bourbon in many of their recipes,” says Four Roses master distiller Jim Rutledge. “Impellizzeri’s has created something exceptional with this year’s pizza.”
It was amazing — way better than last year’s, which was a take on the Hot Brown. The pulled pork was juicy and tender, and the smoked gouda and barbecue sauce blended nicely. The caramelized onions were also soaked in Four Roses … so a few times I took a bite and tasted an explosion of bourbon. Luckily my boss was in the room helping me eat the pizza — or else she’d think I was hitting the flask again at work.
The Four Roses Kentucky Bourbon Pizza is available at all Impellizzeri’s locations throughout September and October. What-what.
